Real Workshop Notes: The Adapter Setup

The setup is straightforward once you identify the correct BCM2 version. The adapter fits securely onto the designated points and holds firmly during the job. The kit includes two adapter boards and two cables to cover different BCM2 versions. Best of all, the whole process is solder-free, making the connection quick and convenient.

Reading

I normally start with a Read ID to confirm that the CPU is detected correctly. Once the chip is recognized without any issues, I proceed with D Flash and P Flash.

The D Flash read is fairly quick, while P Flash takes a bit longer. In my testing, however, the overall reading process was stable and reliable.

 

One Thing to Keep in Mind

The BCM2 has to be unlocked again every time you perform a new operation. The unlock does not remain active after the initial decryption.

This can add a little extra time, especially when handling multiple operations. I wouldn’t recommend permanently unlocking the BCM2 just to save time, as doing so requires erasing the data.

Overall

Once the appropriate adapter and protocol are selected, the process is simple and efficient. The writing procedure follows essentially the same steps as the reading process.

  4. Some bench experience is recommended: The process is not entirely plug-and-play, especially for beginners working with BCM2 modules.

Would I Buy It Again?

Yes. After using it on several BCM2 jobs, I’d definitely keep it in my bench setup. The solder-free adapter has been reliable, convenient, and easy to use once the correct wiring and configuration are confirmed. The need to repeat the unlock process is something to keep in mind, but overall, it hasn’t been a major issue and hasn’t changed my opinion of the adapter.
