A 2004 Volvo S60 came in with an All Keys Lost (AKL) situation. The vehicle uses a Megamos ID48 transponder, and after more than 20 years of ownership, the customer had unfortunately lost every key. Several locksmiths had already turned down the job, believing it couldn’t be completed.
Using the Xhorse VVDI Prog and VVDI2 bundle, the vehicle was successfully restored with a new working key.
Procedure
- Remove and disassemble the CEM (immobilizer) module.
- Locate the Intel 28F400B5B (PSOP44) flash chip.
- Desolder the chip and connect it to the VVDI Prog SOP44 adapter.
- In VVDI Prog, select Intel → AB28F400B5B (PSOP44).
- Read and save the CEM flash data.
- Open VVDI2 and select:
- Region: Europe
- Brand: Volvo
- Model: S60
- Type: -2003 (28F400)
- Load the flash data read by VVDI Prog.
- Place a Megamos ID48 Chip transponder and generate a dealer key from the dump.
- Cut the new mechanical key.
- Program complete—the engine starts normally.
With the combination of VVDI Prog and VVDI2 Key Programmer, a 2004 Volvo S60 that had completely lost all keys was successfully recovered, proving that even older AKL jobs can be completed efficiently with the right tools.
