Purpose
This guide helps users self-diagnose the battery cell and BMS (Battery Management System) of the Xhorse Dolphin XP005/ XP005L key cutting machine using a multimeter, without sending the device for repair.
1. Preparation
Required tools:
- Screwdriver
- Multimeter
Important:Make sure the Dolphin XP005 / XP005L is powered OFF before starting.

2. Remove the Back Cover (If Required)
Unscrew the 8 screws on the back cover.
Place the screws aside carefully for reassembly later.
(Some tests can be done without removing the back cover — see Method B below.)

3. Locate the Test Points
Refer to the battery layout diagram on the board. You will see the following labeled points:
1 → PWR ON: Power switch pins
a → GND: Ground
b → VCC 3V: 3.3V test point
c → VCC 5V: 5V test point

4. Test Battery Cell Condition (3.3V Test)
This step checks whether the battery cell itself is healthy.
Steps:
1.Remove the insulating coating from the 3.3V (VCC 3V) test point.
2.Set the multimeter to DC voltage.
3.Measure voltage between:
- 3.3V test point (b)
- GND (a)
Result:
≈ 3.3V → Battery cell is normal
Significantly lower or no voltage → Battery cell may be faulty

5. Test the BMS (Battery Management System)
Method A – Back Cover Removed
Steps:
1.Turn the power switch ON.
2.Remove the coating from the 5V (VCC 5V) test point.
3.Measure voltage between:
- 5V test point (c)
- GND (a)
Result:
≈ 5V → BMS is working normally

Method B – Back Cover NOT Removed
This method is useful if you don’t want to open the device.
Steps:
1.Locate the PWR ON pins.
2.Short-circuit the PWR ON pins exactly as shown in the diagram.
3.Measure voltage between:
- Point a (GND)
- Point c (VCC 5V)
Result:
≈ 5V → BMS is normal

6. Important Notes
Always remove the insulating coating from test points before measuring.
For Method A, the power switch must be ON during the BMS test.
For Method B, only short-circuit the PWR ON pins as shown in the diagram.
After testing, reassemble the device securely to avoid damage or loose connections.
By following this step-by-step guide, you can quickly determine whether a battery issue on the Xhorse Dolphin XP005 / XP005L is caused by the battery cell or the BMS, saving time and unnecessary repairs. This method is ideal for locksmiths and technicians who want fast, accurate troubleshooting in the workshop.
