Xhorse Key Tool Plus Failed to Learn Key on 2025 Audi A4 or 2024 Porsche Cayenne Solution

Recently, some users have encountered issues while trying to program keys on the 2025 Audi A4 and 2024 Porsche Cayenne using the Xhorse Key Tool Plus with MLB Tool. While collecting key data completes successfully, the key learning process fails—no communication is established with the vehicle during key programming.

Root Cause: SFD Security Gateway

Both the 2025 Audi A4 and 2024 Porsche Cayenne are equipped with the SFD (Security Function Description) Gateway, a high-security module introduced by the VW Group to protect critical vehicle functions. This gateway blocks unauthorized access to the diagnostic system—including key learning and module coding.

Important Notes:

  • These models require SFD unlock and instrument cluster unlock before any key programming can be performed.

  • Xhorse Key Tool Plus cannot currently bypass or unlock the SFD gateway.

  • A third-party tool or authorized dealer access is required to unlock the SFD and gain access to key-related functions.

What You Can Do:
If you’re working on newer Audi or Porsche vehicles with SFD protection:

  1. Use a third-party tool that supports SFD unlocking.

  2. Once the SFD and instrument cluster are unlocked, proceed with key programming via Xhorse tools.

Conclusion:

While the VVDI Key Tool Plus remains a powerful device for key programming, support for SFD-secured models is limited without additional tools. Always verify SFD status on modern VAG models before attempting key programming.
