I’m working on a 2023 Kia Carnival with one working key. We sourced a brand-new OEM smart key with sliding door buttons, and I’m using the VVDI Key Tool Plus to program the new key. The goal is to add the new key successfully while keeping the original key fully functional.
1. Read the Smart Key PIN Code
The Kia Carnival uses a 4A smart key. Before starting IMMO programming, it is recommended to read the key to confirm the transponder type.
- On the Key Tool Plus, navigate to Immo Programming >> ASIA >> KIA >> Read PIN Code >> Password Reading (ID 4A Smart Key) >> Start Programming >> Read PIN Code.
- If the device is connected to the internet, click OK. If an original key is available, switch the ignition OFF and then ON. If all keys are lost, turn on the hazard lights and open and close the driver’s door once.
- Click OK and wait for the PIN code reading process to complete. When prompted, switch the ignition OFF and record the displayed PIN code.

Workshop Note: Hyundai/Kia key programming will erase all previously registered keys and remotes. Always confirm with the customer whether additional keys need to be programmed before proceeding, so they can be added again during the process.
2.Enter Smart Key Programming
- Navigate to Select by Model >> US Market >> Carnival (KA4) >> 2022- >> Smart Key Programming >> Start Programming >> Smart Key Programming.
- Enter the PIN code 363065, then press the Start button once when prompted.
- Turn the ignition OFF, open and close the driver’s door once, and confirm the network connection if prompted.
3. Match the New Smart Key

Within 5 seconds, press and hold the indicator-light end of the smart key against the Start button for 5 seconds. The immobilizer indicator will flash during the matching process. Keep the original factory key upright. For some aftermarket keys, position the back of the key against the button or remove the key shell.

When the tool displays “This start key has programmed successfully,” select Yes to continue programming the next key and repeat the same procedure.

Once all keys have been programmed, select No to complete the process.
All smart keys must be programmed to the vehicle; otherwise, the vehicle will not start.
4. Verify Key Function
Test both smart keys to ensure they can start the vehicle and all functions are working properly.
